Funding
- AeroShield Materials announced the opening of its new manufacturing facility in Waltham, MA and $5M in additional funding for its ultra-insulating clear aerogels for energy-efficient windows and more.
- Clean Crop Technologies, which uses its Clean Current technology to remove contaminants from seed and food surfaces, received a $1.2M grant from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative. It also won a $350,000 InnovateMass award from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) to demonstrate its system
- BERKM received a $274k SBIR Phase I award from the National Science Foundation to advance its clay-based additive, which reduces the amount of plastic used in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging by up to 20 percent.
- AeroShield Materials—developer of aerogel materials for energy-efficient windows—and Zero—a startup building an automated assessment, design, and procurement platform for residential retrofits—received Phase I SBIR awards from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office.
- Optigon won a $299,000 AmplifyMass award from MassCEC for its solar-cell-performance monitoring solution.
- florrent won a $244,916 InnovateMass award from MassCEC to test its bio-derived carbon material to create effective back-up power systems.
- eSki won a $75,000 Catalyst/DICES award from MassCEC to develop its electric jet ski.
- EarthEn received a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award from the National Science Foundation to advance its sCO2-based, thermo-mechanical, long-duration energy storage system.
- Greentown alum ZwitterCo, developer of advanced water-treatment membranes, raised a $58.4M Series B.
- Greentown alum e-Zinc raised a $31M Series A2—follow-on funding to its $25M Series A—for its zinc-air battery systems.
- Greentown alum Feon Energy, an advanced battery-electrolyte startup, closed a $6.1M seed round and won a $350,000 InnovateMass award from MassCEC.
- Greentown alum Foray Bioscience, which applies biomanufacturing to grow plant-based materials, raised a $3M seed round.
- Greentown alum Embue won a $334,640 InnovateMass award to test its peak electricity load management system in multifamily buildings.
- Greentown alum Ohmium, a developer of electrolyzer systems for green hydrogen production, received an investment from 3M.
Partnerships + Deployments
- Sublime Systems, a startup decarbonizing cement-making, announced a sale of 2,000 tons of cement to Vineyard Offshore, the parent company of Greentown partner Vineyard Wind.
- Reframe Systems hosted a ribbon cutting for its first customer project—a two-bedroom, all-electric, net-zero, Passive House accessory dwelling unit that was built using robotic technology.
- American Battery Technology Company secured a purchase agreement for its recycled black mass material.
- QuantAQ is deploying more than 50 of its air-quality sensors in Madison, WI.
- Singularity Energy announced a joint collaboration with Southern Company, the second-largest utility in the United States, to implement its carbon- and clean-energy-management platform.
- Carbon Upcycling Technologies delivered 200 metric tonnes of captured-carbon-enhanced fly ash for sustainable cement to BURNCO Rock Products, part of ongoing efforts between the two companies funded by a $4.4M grant in 2023 from Emissions Reduction Alberta.
- Fresh Inset registered Vidre+, its technology that extends the freshness of avocados and limes, in Peru.
- Greentown alum Fervo Energy announced 320MW of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utility Southern California Edison. The two PPAs are the world’s largest yet for advanced geothermal and can provide clean power for the equivalent of 350,000 homes across southern California.
- Capture6, a Carbon to Value (C2V) Initiative Year 3 participant, will collaborate with Greentown partner Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions to deploy its carbon-removal tech into Veolia’s integrated water-management systems.

- Greentown alum Eugenie.ai, which creates AI products for climate and industrial sustainability, has merged with Fractal, a global provider of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics solutions to Fortune 500 companies.

- Adept Materials and Mantel were selected for Third Derivative’s Cohort 24-2.
- MicroEra Power, Sublime Systems, and Dandelion Energy were named to Climate Insider’s list of 10 building tech startups to know.
- rStream co-founders Ian Goodine and Ethan Walko were chosen for Activate Boston’s 2024 cohort.
- Stepwise was selected for GrowthX’s Revenue Accelerator at the Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship.
- Greentown members EVident Battery and MicroAvionics and ACCEL Year 2 participant Aquasaic were selected for MassChallenge’s 2024 U.S. Early-stage Cohort.
