CarbonBlue is a company focused on developing a Direct Water Capture (DWC) Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technology that can extract CO2 from any water source in an environmentally safe and measurable way.
CarbonBlue aims to leverage existing facilities like desalination and water-cooling systems to reduce costs, permitting, and deployment time. The reactors are modular, giving operational flexibility to connect sources (water-using industries) and consumers of CO2 with the possibility of transporting CO2 as mineralized rock (CaCO3). This reduces cost by simplifying transport and storage while providing an on-site source of pure, low-cost, sustainable CO2 for industries using CO2.

About the solution 

CarbonBlue’s technology, based on calcium looping, uses lime to capture dissolved inorganic carbon and mineralize it into a solid calcium carbonate phase for safe and simple transport and storage. The calcium carbonate is converted back to lime and CO2 at a place and time convenient for sequestration or utilization of the CO2 using a proprietary process that requires lower temperatures than existing processes, allowing electrification and integration of renewable or waste heat.
