Funding
- Phoenix Tailings, which provides sustainable technologies to recover and refine critical metals, raised a $40.2M Series B to accelerate U.S. rare earth metals production.
- 10Dq, Elementium Materials, Hera Materials, and Greentown alum ElectricFish Energy received a total of more than $1M in grants for clean energy and climate technology projects from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center:
- 10Dq received $75k to develop its novel redox loop battery technology using non-flammable water-based electrolytes.
- Elementium Materials was awarded $350k to demonstrate its safe, high-performance electrolyte in commercial lithium-ion batteries.
- Hera Materials received $349k to demonstrate its low-cost, energy-efficient process for producing a recyclable and compostable paper-based film designed to replace plastic packaging.
- ElectricFish Energy was awarded $231k to demonstrate its microgrid-integrated battery-backed EV charging technology.
- Lasso received $100k from the Bezos Earth Fund Acceleration Initiative for its food technology that uses natural proteins to create real texture in alternative foods. It also launched two new products using its technology: a fruit snack and a chip.
- Greentown alum Zero Homes raised a $16.8M Series A to support the expansion of its end-to-end platform that digitizes and automates assessment, design, and procurement for home upgrades.
- Greentown alum FluxWorks, which delivers elegant, efficient, and contactless power transmission, raised a $5M seed round.
Partnerships + Deployments
- Syzygy Plasmonics signed a sustainable-aviation-fuel offtake agreement with Trafigura. The six-year agreement covers the entire production volume from Syzygy’s first commercial facility, with initial deliveries scheduled for 2028.
- Reframe Systems, a physical AI company automating the homebuilding process to address the housing crisis, is developing six for-sale duplexes in Devens, Massachusetts.
- Adept Materials, developer of smart building products for the construction industry based on a proprietary multifunctional material technology, launched its first product, Lilypad Paint, a moisture-regulating paint and primer system.
- Spare-it, a company transforming how organizations measure, report, and reduce their in-building waste, partnered with NASDAQ.
- ZS2 Technologies, a building technology scaleup with a focus on decarbonizing the construction industry, has expanded its North American manufacturing footprint into the United States.
- Greentown alum MicroEra Power launched its THERMAplus hardware and software solution for smart Thermal Energy Storage for buildings at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
- Greentown alum QuEra Computing, a quantum computing company, entered a $4M partnership with New Mexico-based Roadrunner Venture Studios to develop a quantum testbed at the upcoming Roadrunner Quantum Lab in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Awards + Recognition
- Hera Materials won the Global Startup Challenge from Banco de Chile for its AI-powered processes for producing regenerative plastics from diverse local biomass.
Acquisitions
- Alloy Enterprises, a manufacturer of direct liquid-cooled thermal management components, was acquired by Johnson Controls.
