Greentown Labs and Shell pair up to #makethefuture

Earlier this month our community enjoyed quite the treat! Shell, one of our corporate sponsors, brought their synergy truck to showcase some of their awesome technologies and meet our community. Check out some photos from the day and learn more about the #makethefuture technologies Shell has to offer!

The day began with the Greentown Team giving a hearty welcome and testing out the truck ourselves.

When users jump on the yellow pads to the left of the truck, they convert that energy into electricity. That’s how Greentown Labs members, (like Raptor Maps above) earned their lunch!

The first technology that caught my eye was the Gravity Light. The light (mounted on the white circle) is powered by the grey bag falling slowly and producing kinetic energy. The light can be reset by pulling on the beads. This technology is life changing for communities in the developing world that don’t have access to the grid.

This event brought together members of our community that don’t usually interact. Above, you can see an employee of Righthand Robotics and our Executive Vice President racing each other for lunch.

Next to the truck, Shell also had this solar paneled umbrella on display. The umbrella has flexible solar panels on top and they power lighting for whoever is sitting below it!

Our member company IVYS Energy Solutions knows a thing or two about innovative technology and they enjoyed speaking with Shell employees and the exchange of ideas.

On top of the truck, the #makethefuture truck has a wind turbine that can power the truck’s lights. It seemed like every part of the truck was being utilized to provide cleaner energy solutions.

The final technology we got to learn about was the MotionEco box. It can re-purpose used cooking oil into biofuel. Talk about mitigating food waste!

A beautiful day coupled with an engaging community of members and sponsors is a recipe for success. We love hosting events like this at our facility.
