Barno recognized for her leadership and contributions to the Boston-area cleantech ecosystem
Somerville, MA – January 4, 2017 – Elizabeth Barno, Greentown Labs’ Community Manager, has been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30: Energy List. The List, now in its sixth year, is highly competitive and sought-after, receiving more than 15,000 applications for only 600 spots. Previous winners include Mark Zuckerberg, Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel, Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon and other young game-changers and innovators from around the country.
Barno stood out among other nominees for her key role in helping grow Greentown Labs into the largest cleantech startup incubator in the United States; her driving force behind the supportive community and culture at the incubator; her eagerness to help cleantech entrepreneurs succeed and bring new technologies to market; and for her contributions to the regional cleantech ecosystem.
Barno joined Greentown Labs as an intern in early 2013 when it was just two years old and home to just 12 member companies. After graduating from Northeastern University later that year with a degree in Environmental Law, she quickly took on a full-time position at Greentown Labs, helping expand its current member roster to 56 companies.
“First I’d like to thank Forbes Magazine and the 30 Under 30 judges for selecting me. I realize how competitive the nomination and review process is and am honored to have made the List,” said Barno. “And second, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge and thank the Greentown Labs member companies and my colleagues for their support and camaraderie over the past four years. Greentown Labs is a special place and I’m proud to help drive the community and culture that more than 50 startups currently call home.”
Greentown Labs is a community of bold, passionate entrepreneurs creating innovative energy technologies that transform the way we live, work, and play; many of whom have been featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 List since its launch in 2012. Located in Somerville, MA, Greentown Labs operates a 40,000 sq. ft. facility that enables entrepreneurs to solve today’s biggest energy and environmental challenges.
“This is a well-deserved honor for an impressive, passionate and dedicated professional who has made a true impact at Greentown Labs,” said Emily Reichert, CEO of Greentown Labs. “Elizabeth has played an instrumental role in ensuring that Greentown Labs’ community culture remained strong and consistent over the past four years and she will continue to do so as we open another 50,000 sq. ft. facility in late 2017. Her leadership role and understanding of what our entrepreneurs need to succeed is unparalleled and we are lucky to have her!”
