Greentown Labs Announces New Board Members

In a very short three years, Greentown Labs has emerged as one of the nation’s largest hardware-focused, cleantech incubators. We started as a group of four companies who simply wanted to split the cost of rent and have grown into a coworking and labs space with more than 40 member companies.

At this intersection of member growth, increasing public awareness, and rising demand on both member companies and Greentown Labs’ staff, it’s more important than ever for our community to have a guiding force leading us into our next chapter and beyond.

Today we announce three new board members who will lead us on our mission of enabling entrepreneurs to solve the world’s biggest energy and environmental challenges. While our existing board of entrepreneurial innovators has done an excellent job in developing Greentown Labs, our new board members bring knowledge and experience from all sectors of the clean energy industry; from venture capital to business leadership, wind to energy management, and policy and planning. We are eager to see what the next chapter brings with their insight and direction.

Our new board members include:

Alicia Barton, CEO of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), is responsible for leading MassCEC’s efforts to accelerate the success of the clean energy technology sector in Massachusetts. Since 2012, Alicia has driven MassCEC’s efforts to provide support for all aspects of the sector from early stage technology innovation, to clean energy project deployment and workforce development. Under Alicia’s leadership, MassCEC has grown its program offerings for businesses, communities and residences, expanded its focus to new areas like water innovation, and made history by breaking ground on construction of the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal – America’s first offshore wind facility. Immediately prior to joining MassCEC, Alicia was the Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Planning, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Planning. Alicia received her J.D. degree from Boston College Law School and a Bachelor of Science, Natural Resources from Ohio State University.

Matthew Nordan, co-founder and managing partner of MNL Partners, develops energy and environmental projects in global markets, with a focus on China. He has spent 17 years focused on breakthrough technologies as an investor, advisor, and analyst. Prior to MNL, Matthew was a venture investor at Venrock, one of the world’s oldest and most successful venture capital firms. At Venrock, he drove investments in FINsix (power electronics) and Nest Labs (energy efficiency, acquired by Google for $3.2 billion), and worked closely with other portfolio companies on strategy, business development and fundraising. Matthew graduated from Yale with a degree in psychology.

Mitch Tyson, principal at Tyson Associates and chair and co-founder of New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC), is an experienced high tech executive and entrepreneur. NECEC seeks to accelerate New England’s clean energy economy to global leadership by building an active community of stakeholders and a world-class cluster of clean energy companies. Mitch serves on a number of corporate, non-profit, and governmental advisory boards. He lectures on clean energy, entrepreneurship, management, and the triple bottom line and advises early stage companies and entrepreneurs. He is a partner at the Clean Energy Venture Group, adjunct professor in Brandeis’ International Business School and co-chair of the Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative. Mitch graduated from MIT with master’s degrees in nuclear engineering and political science, and a bachelor’s degree in physics.

Alicia, Matthew and Mitch will join our five existing board members, three of whom are Greentown Labs co-founders:

Emily Reichert, Ph.D., CEO, Greentown Labs

Jason Hanna, Co-founder, Greentown Labs; CEO and Founder, Embue

Jeremy Pitts, Co-founder, Greentown Labs; Vice President of Product Development, OsComp Systems

Adam Rein, Co-founder, Greentown Labs; Co-founder Altaeros Energies
