FUNDING
- American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) received two contracts from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE): a $57M contract for its first-of-kind, commercial-scale, lithium-hydroxide-manufacturing facility in Tonopah, NV, and a $20M contract to advance next-generation battery-recycling technologies. The startup also secured up to $50M in debt financing.
- Lydian, a Greentown alum, raised $12M in seed funding to decarbonize air travel with power-to-liquid fuels.
- Nth Cycle received $3M from the DOE to advance its cutting-edge electro-extraction technology for critical minerals.
- florrent, an ACCEL cohort company, raised a $2.1M pre-seed round for its uniquely derived pure-carbon electrode energy storage medium technology.
- Advent Technologies, a Greentown alum, secured a $2.2M contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, paving the way for higher production volumes of portable fuel-cell systems.
- Onvector received a $1.25M SBIR Phase II contract from AFWERX for destroying PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”).
- Helix Earth Technologies received a Phase I SBIR Grant for $275K from the National Science Foundation for its energy-efficient air-conditioning tech.
PARTNERSHIPS + DEPLOYMENTS
- Amogy, a Greentown alum, is developing a 53k-square-foot, $40 million manufacturing facility in Houston for its carbon-free, ammonia-to-power technology that will employ 200 people.
- Cemvita will provide up to 1 billion gallons of sustainable air fuel to Greentown partner United Airlines.
- Fervo Energy will partner with a student from Texas A&M University to support their study of induced seismicity associated with geothermal development under a DOE and National Science Foundation program. Additionally, Fervo will start drilling at a Utah site capable of delivering 400 MW of geothermal energy.
- GPR shipped the first commercial units of its automobile-positioning technology.
- ABTC and Greentown partner BASF are partnering to provide the North American market with a regional, closed-loop solution for lithium-ion batteries.
- CeraPhi will help launch the UK’s first geothermal well, using its patented solution to extract clean, renewable energy from underground.
- Spare-it deployed its first waste data solution to reduce waste and associated costs in Nashville, TN.
AWARDS + RECOGNITION
- Active Surfaces, an ACCEL participant, won the Kajima Innovation Award in the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition.
- Leaders from Greentown members and alumni Community Energy Labs, Mars Materials, and Electra are included in the 2023 Grist 50.
- Mantel and Mars Materials were named two of the “10 most promising energy tech companies” at Energy Tech Venture Forum.
- Applied Bioplastics’s founder was selected to StartOut and J.P. Morgan’s newest cohort of 10 innovative companies for the StartOut Growth Lab Accelerator.
- Greentown members and alumni Electric Fish, IncentiFind, DirtSat, and Mars Materials were named to the 35 Climate Tech Startups to Watch list put out by GreenBiz.
- GenH’s co-founder Siddarth Pannir won the Cade Prize in the Energy category for the startup’s Adaptive Hydro technology that works to electrify non-powered dams.
- Sublime Systems has been granted the ASTM C1157 designation, ensuring its compliance with major U.S. and international building codes for construction projects.
- Greentown members and alumni Desktop Metal, Air Company, and Amogy had leaders named to the MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35 list.
