Xively by LogMeIn Joins Greentown Labs as Kilowatt Sponsor

Xively by LogMeIn, Inc. (NASDAQ:LOGM), a leading Internet of Things (IoT) connected product management platform, has signed on as the newest Kilowatt Sponsor of Greentown Labs, the nation’s largest hardware-focused cleantech incubator. Xively provides the capabilities needed to address key challenges associated with making IoT a reality for product companies—expertise that will greatly benefit Greentown Labs’ member companies that are developing products at the intersection of hardware and software technologies.

The energy industry is experiencing a significant transformation regarding the way energy is generated, distributed, stored, and managed. A key factor driving this change is the ability to connect and remotely manage energy products and solutions. The IoT can greatly impact energy efficiency efforts, energy usage trends, and energy costs through automation by easily creating processes to focus on business goals. Xively by LogMeIn’s sponsorship will enhance Greentown Labs’ startups’ IoT automation efforts and enable them to prioritize other areas of product development and key business milestones.

“Our mission with Xively is to solve the hardest challenges of IoT so companies can focus on getting a connected product to market faster and begin delivering real value to their customers,” said Ryan Lester, Director of IoT Strategy at LogMeIn. “Working with Greentown Labs, we have the ability to connect and share ideas with a community of innovative, forward-thinking energy and cleantech companies. By bringing our expertise to the table, we hope to have an impact that will help move this incredibly exciting industry forward.

The Xively platform connects devices, structures data to make it actionable, and integrates with other business ecosystems. Xively by LogMeIn has helped companies launch a variety of successful, IoT-connected products, across industries including utilities, energy generation, commercial building management, smart home and agriculture.

“As the cleantech and energy markets continue to evolve, we see more and more of our member companies developing hardware-oriented technologies that require IoT connectivity,” said Emily Reichert, CEO of Greentown Labs. “Our entrepreneurs have the ability to develop IoT solutions but often don’t have the time or bandwidth to dedicate to building their own platform and because of this we’re confident many of them will take advantage of Xively’s industry-leading offerings. We appreciate LogMeIn’s support of our community and we’re eager to see our startups utilize their platform!”

Xively already has a successful working relationship with a Greentown Labs member company, Sparkplug Power. Sparkplug has developed a smart grid energy storage solution for businesses and municipal utilities, and relies on Xively to provide IoT connectivity that is critical to the operation of the business. Choosing to work with Xively to connect and manage their remote products allows Sparkplug to get products into the market quickly and dedicate 100 percent of their focus on building their core energy technology, while avoiding getting bogged down building a connectivity solution from scratch.

Greentown Labs offers 33,000 sq. ft. of prototyping lab and office space, a shared machine shop, and an electronics shop to its startups. Members of Greentown Labs are immersed in a network of more than 45 local, national and international cleantech resources. The incubator is doubling the size of its headquarters in Somerville, MA, and in the fall of 2017 it will open its Global Center for Cleantech Innovation, providing an additional 58,000 sq. ft. of prototyping, office and event space for 50 additional startups.
