Veloce Energy Makes EV Charging Infrastructure Cheaper and Faster to Install

Implementing widespread charging infrastructure is one of the primary roadblocks for electric vehicle (EV) adoption. But what if you could reduce the time it takes to install charging stations from weeks to days and cut the installation and operating costs in half?

Veloce Energy combines two solutions to make EV charging infrastructure “faster and less expensive to deploy and operate,” its CEO Jeff Wolfe explains.

The first is VPort, a modular and compact battery that’s specifically designed for EV charging stations. It’s developed for the strictest fire codes, can be placed directly next to buildings, and boasts a clean, smooth-edged look.

“We can add both power conversion and battery capacity at any time during or after initial installation, and in increments,” Wolfe says. “One of the breakthroughs is being able to make this modular and scalable without having a lot of extra upfront costs for equipment that you may or may not ever need.”

The second solution is FastConnect, an above-ground installation system. FastConnect™ brings much of the wiring overhead, reducing time-consuming and risky digging and trenching. Buried equipment typically accounts for half of the charging station’s cost, according to Wolfe.

FastConnect™ is easily expandable, which means that operators can add more capacity at any time without needing to spend upfront dollars to future-proof their sites. And because fewer components are underground, you can move the valuable equipment to a different location. This feature allows Veloce Energy to lease its charging equipment to site operators.

Veloce Energy’s customers include EV service providers, fleet infrastructure operators, and vehicle OEMs. The company is currently in the process of raising its Series A, securing patents, and getting its products certified to UL standards, according to Wolfe.

The startup’s founding team—Wolfe, Mark Yates, Randy Palombi, and Mike Schenck—are joined by eight part-time and full-time contractors, and in October became Inaugural Members of Greentown Houston. They’ve found the Greentown startup community supportive and helpful, Wolfe says.

“So much about being an entrepreneur is pretty lonely, so having a community means having people you can reach out to and commiserate with and share tips and ideas,” he explains. “That’s been valuable.”
