Founded in 1610, Takenaka Corporation is a major general contractor in Japan. They develop construction technology as their primary domain but also are trying to integrate cutting edge technology to create even more sophisticated cities and expand their business domain. They believe carbon neutrality is an urgent social problem and the construction sector has a large responsibility due to the high emissions among related industries. Takenaka’s goal is to reduce their carbon emissions by 35% utilizing design, construction, operations, and demolition phases by 2030, and ultimately achieve net zero carbon emissions in 2050. The path to solutions isn’t always clear because there are so many companies in the building sector. They are therefore looking for possibilities and opportunities to collaborate with Greentown members in terms of exploration, verification and integration of decarbonization technology.
