In a year with unprecedented headwinds, we saw our members pivot to meet urgent needs, raise impressive rounds to advance their climatetech solutions, and collaborate with the ecosystem and each other. They swiftly transformed their day-to-day business operations to a virtual model, worked with our safety team to implement increased safety standards in their labs, and—above all—persevered and worked tirelessly in the name of climate action.
We couldn’t be more proud of our members’ resilience and accomplishments throughout 2020. Here are some of our entrepreneurs’ most impressive moments:
Form Energy secured its first grid-scale battery installation pilot project and raised a $70M Series C. Form Energy’s CEO Mateo Jaramillo was selected as one of Business Insider’s 100 People Transforming Business in North America.
Biobot Analytics pivoted its technology to detect COVID-19 outbreaks, raised $6.7M, and is now monitoring the sewage of 10 percent of the U.S. population. In December, Smart Cities Dive chose Biobot for its Technology of the Year award.
SomEV launched its first electric micromobility vehicles this fall. Then, it teamed up with fellow Greentown member Spyce, with Spyce buying or leasing 20 of SomEV’s e-mopeds for its delivery fleet after reopening its Boston restaurant with a new “Infinite Kitchen.”
Circularise raised €1.5 million to support circularity in plastics, joined The Alliance to End Plastic Waste, and struck up a partnership with Porsche to trace sustainability in the carmaker’s supply chain.
Ivys Energy Solutions brought its SimpleFuel hydrogen refueling station to the Philadelphia Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field stadium.
Numerous individual leaders in our community were recognized for their efforts across the climatetech industry:
- Paris Smalls of Eden GeoTech and Alex Smith of Power For Humanity were selected for Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Energy list.
- Julie Angus of Open Ocean Robotics was chosen as BCBusiness’s Woman of the Year in the Innovator category.
- Francisco Morocz of Heila Technologies, Nikhil Vadhavkar and Eddie Obropta of Raptor Maps, and Shawn Murphy of Titan Advanced Energy Solutions were named “rising stars who are transforming the future of clean energy” by Business Insider.
