VIA Biofuels produces and sells premium drop-in fuels and chemical feedstocks to the international transportation, aviation and chemical industries. VIA’s bio-produced molecules are like-for-like substitutes for their fossil-based equivalents that are well-known and established components of certain pump blends, jet fuels and chemical processes for a vast array of familiar, high-quality end-use products. VIA’s drop-ins will provide immediate, top-quality solutions and will not require engine modifications or expensive changes to manufacturing facilities or operations.

About the Solution

VIA’s primary molecule, 3-methylanisole, or 3MA, is produced by a proprietary yeast strain through continuous fermentation and a simple capture process made possible by 3MA’s unique volatilization feature and stability as it naturally exits the fermentation broth. VIA’s S. cerevisiae yeast has been proven to be robust and compatible with a wide variety of feedstocks. VIA also offers two derivatives, Methylcyclohexane, or MCH, and Toluene, that can be made directly from 3MA through single-step catalytic conversions with known catalysts and processing.

VIA’s drop-ins are high-energy molecules that are stable and portable. 3MA, for example, has a higher energy density than gasoline itself. 3MA has more than 150% of the energy density of ethanol and does not exhibit the negative, hydrophilic qualities of ethanol. Fossil-based MCH is used in jet fuels today, and VIA’s drop-in MCH has the same energy density and characteristics.

VIA will team up with landowners, feedstock growers, and continuous fermentation experts to produce and satisfy offtake agreements for its products. VIA’s U.S. market opportunity alone is over 100 billion gallons, and the business model is structured for global deployment and success.
