About the company
Ensovi is reducing the cost and increasing the sustainability of pharmaceuticals manufacturing by recovering, regenerating and recycling expensive energy-carrying molecules (“cofactors”) essential to enzymatic (“cell-free”) biosynthesis.
About the solution
Cell-free production methods are used by pharmaceutical manufacturers to improve process yields and control, and accelerate product development. However, use of these advantaged methods is constrained by the high cost of cofactors required to fuel the cell-free process.
Ensovi’s modular platform regenerates depleted energy cofactors using patented light activated photo-catalysts, artificial light, and water. Comprised of multiple proteins bound in lipid or polymer membrane bubbles, Ensovi’s photo-catalysts have demonstrated exceptional efficiency under laboratory conditions. Ensovi is now scaling and integrating its platform with an established cell-free system used to manufacture pharmaceuticals.
Ensovi is focusing on high-value pharmaceutical and fine chemical applications. As cell-free biosynthesis methods and Ensovi’s technology mature and costs decline, Ensovi envisions its platform will be used to produce lower-value molecules from CO2 and other simple starting materials.
