About the Company
Circe Bioscience is a team compelled by a shared mission to decarbonize food production. Global food production accounts for almost a third of total carbon emissions, with those from animals or tropical plants comprising a significant portion. By making foods, especially those we love, with CO2-driven fermentation, Circe Bioscience aims to build a climate-friendly distributed food system that doesn’t change the food, just how it’s made.
About the Solution

Circe Bioscience tailor-makes fats through a carbon negative fermentation process. The company’s proprietary microbes eat CO2 through a similar biochemical pathway to what plants use to fix CO2. Circe Bioscience can engineer the microbes to make different kinds of fats and formulate them into food products that are delicious and climate-friendly. Because the process draws down CO2, Circe Bioscience can offset the carbon footprint of the other ingredients while providing a key ingredient that all plant-based formulations currently lack: the right fats. The company has the metabolic pathways and process patented, and because of its genetic control over the product, it can make modular products for basically every food type of food in a massively scalable way.
