Greentown Labs has quickly evolved into the nation’s largest cleantech incubator with more than 40 member companies and a 33,000 sq. ft. lab and co-working space. To keep pace with Greentown Labs’ momentum, the growing community has named Sam Jackson its first-ever Director of Operations.

In this role Jackson will lead all aspects of Greentown Labs’ operations, ensuring the highest quality of service delivery to Greentown Labs companies. As Director of Operations, Jackson’s responsibilities will include member services; financial management; facilities management; safety program management; supervision of the machine shop, and planning for growth.

“Greentown Labs’ mission is to support entrepreneurs who are working to solve the world’s biggest energy and environmental problems,” said Greentown Labs CEO Emily Reichert. “I am confident that Sam joining our team will bring our member services and operations to a new level even as we and our resident companies continue to grow.”

Prior to Greentown Labs, Jackson spent 15 years as an active-duty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard in roles focusing on contract management, facility management, safety training and project management. Most recently, Jackson was stationed at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C. in the office responsible for the construction of the Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter. He managed extensive communications, electronics and major mission system upgrades to each cutter. Before his time in Washington D.C., Jackson led the electrical and damage control divisions on a cutter out of Cape May N.J. and served as a platoon officer and instructor at Officer Candidate School in New London, C.T. where he taught nautical science and leadership theory. Jackson has also taught a Strength of Materials class at the U.S. Naval Academy.

“One of the things I love most about Greentown Labs is the contagious excitement and enthusiasm that’s constantly flowing throughout the facility because of its entrepreneurs,” said Jackson. “Maintaining that energy as we continue to grow and balancing the formal processes of a large organization with the unique culture and community at Greentown Labs will be an exciting opportunity and challenge for me in the coming months.”

Jackson earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. He’s originally from New Jersey, has a wife and three daughters, enjoys running in road races, sailing, and is happy to be back in New England.
